Die Mannschaft are heavy favourites for tonight’s match against La Albirroja.

Germany take on Paraguay in their Round of 32 clash in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on June 29. The four-time champions progressed to the knockout stages as Group E champions and will face a Paraguayan side that qualified as one of the best third-placed teams.

The European giants made a good start to their group-stage campaign, thrashing debutants Curacao 7-1. They then survived a scare to seal a 2-1 comeback victory against Ivory Coast. However, Die Mannschaft had no such luck in the final game against Ecuador, losing 2-1 despite Leroy Sane’s second-minute goal.

Their last match’s setback notwithstanding, Julian Nagelsmann’s men have had a solid campaign so far and will be the favourites to seal another win and progress to the next stage.

Thoughts on the lineup

Nagelsmann has made his preferred starting lineup perfectly clear over the three group-stage games. Aside from the injured Nico Schlotterbeck, he has all his preferred starters available and fit.

Manuel Neuer continues to be the team’s No. 1 and starts between the sticks. He is shielded by the centre-back pairing of Jonathan Tah and Antonio Rudiger, with the latter replacing Schlotterbeck. Joshua Kimmich and Nathaniel Brown start as the full-backs.

Felix Nmecha, who has a goal and an assist in this World Cup, partners Aleksandar Pavlovic in a two-man midfield pivot. Arsenal’s Kai Havertz drops deeper into an attacking midfield position and will look to shoulder the creative burden for his side.

Leroy Sane and Florian Wirtz have impressed on the flanks and keep their place in tonight’s match. Nagelsmann finally relents and gives Deniz Undav the first start of the tournament, with the Stuttgart striker scoring three goals and netting two assists so far.
