The Premier League has always been notorious for great men between the sticks.

Goalkeepers in the modern era are more rounded players than in the past. The traditional goalkeeper was tall, strong, agile, good at catching the ball from crosses and a shot-stopper. However, times have changed as tactics have evolved since the turn of the century.

The modern goalkeepers are excellent with their feet and comfortable when passing out from the back. Modern goalkeepers must be quick off their line, especially in the age of defensive high lines employed by the best teams in the world. We have also seen goalkeepers providing assists to their forward players. Here we will take a look at the top seven goalkeepers with the most assists in Premier League history:

7. Alisson Becker – 3 assists

Alisson Becker‘s arrival at Liverpool in 2018 was a game-changer. The Brazilian shot-stopper brought a sense of calm and confidence to Anfield and his impact was immediate. He is known for his superb reflexes and excellent distribution.

He is also capable of providing assists to his teammates. He is good at kicking the ball far into the opponent’s half and from there Liverpool forwards can attack or even convert it into a goal. He is currently one of the best keepers in the world. Alisson has been consistent with his performances and is a perfect team player.

6. Peter Schmeichel – 3 assists

A tall, strong and physically imposing goalkeeper with a large frame and long reach. Peter Schmeichel was also very athletic and is a legend for the Denmark National team. He was highly regarded for his goalkeeping technique, shot-stopping ability and positioning between the posts.

A courageous and fierce competitor, he was a leader at the back and always used to communicate with his teammates. In his career, he provided three assists and made his name in the football world.

5. Tim Howard – 3 assists

Tim Howard played is a legend for Premier League side Everton. He played ten years at the club and made 354 appearances. He also represented the US National team 121 times and was a top-quality player.

During his prime, he was regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He was a tall and well-rounded keeper with a large frame. His ability to make extraordinary saves made him special.

David Seaman was very consistent with his performances. Although he was not particularly flashy in his style of goalkeeping he was regarded as an efficient and generally reliable goalkeeper who was known for his cool demeanour.

2. Paul Robinson – 4 assists

Paul Robinson played for some top clubs in the Premier League and was a really good player in his playing days. He also represented the Three Lions 41 times. He had played for clubs like, Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur, Burnley and Blackburn Rovers.

He was a tall and physically imposing figure who had excellent reflexes and was also good in one-on-one situations. In his entire Premier League career he provided four assists.

When it comes to playing out from the back Ederson is in a league of his own. The Manchester City goalkeeper who joined in 2017 has redefined the role with his exceptional passing skills. Ederson’s ability to launch attacks with precise long passes is like having an additional midfielder on the pitch.

His agility and shot-stopping skills are top notch too. Under his watch, City have won multiple Premier League titles and his role in their success can’t be overstated.
