Graham Potter updates on Gabriel Gudmundsson injury after Sweden's 5-1 win vs Tunisia

Gudmundsson was replaced in the game due to injury.
Gabriel Gudmundsson of Leeds United was subbed off during Sweden’s 5-1 World Cup victory over Tunisia due to injury. The left-back began Sweden’s first FIFA World Cup 2026 match.
Gudmundsson had recently missed five weeks with a hamstring injury sustained during Leeds’ FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea. He was also suffering from an illness in recent days, which initially cast doubt on his participation in Sweden’s tournament opener.
The Whites star recovered in time for Graham Potter to feel confident starting him against Tunisia. However, Gabriel Gudmundsson’s injury forced him to abandon the play in the second half, overshadowing a resounding 5-1 victory.
Gabriel Gudmundsson went down shortly after the hour mark of the game, with Sweden leading 3-1. He made the universal motion to his bench, indicating that he needed to come off. That’s exactly what happened with 64 minutes on the referee’s watch.
Sweden did not regret his injury on the night. They went on to score two more goals to seal a stunning opening victory over Tunisia.
However, the 27-year-old is a crucial player for them. They will undoubtedly miss him if he is forced to miss matches in the tournament.
