Why Haiti's FIFA World Cup 2026 kit features Poland flag?
Haiti will be playing in their first World Cup in 52 years.
Haiti national football team has attached the Polish (Poland) flag to their official FIFA World Cup 2026 shirt. This is not a design fault. It is a representation of the two peoples’ centuries-long relationship.
In 1802, Napoleon dispatched hundreds of Polish Legion soldiers to the island to quell the slave insurrection in Haiti. However, many Polish soldiers declined to fight against the Haitians fighting for freedom. They instead chose to join their ranks and fight alongside them against the French forces.
After Haiti obtained independence in 1804, the country’s first leader, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, granted Poles citizenship. He referred to them in the constitution as the “Blacks of Europe.”
After Les Grenadiers presented their official World Cup uniform, viewers spotted an odd graphic featuring a person holding the Polish flag.
Many others assumed it was a design blunder, with the flags mixed up. However, the story is significantly more convoluted.
By incorporating the Polish flag, Haiti’s national team is once again thanking Poland for their assistance during a difficult era.
After more than 200 years, the Les Grenadiers have not forgotten the Poles’ support. Today, football players wear the Polish flag on their uniforms to honour the joint struggle for freedom.

Haiti returns to the World Cup finals after 52 years. They now have the daunting task of overcoming a difficult Group C.
After winning their CONCACAF qualifying group, the Caribbean nation, rated 81st in the FIFA ranking, has been drawn alongside a resurgent Scotland, the competition’s all-time winners Brazil, and AFCON winners Morocco.
After starting preparations in the greatest possible way with a 4-0 victory over New Zealand, Migné and his team will face Scotland on June 14th to open their World Cup 2026 campaign.
