Matthijs De Ligt says he wants to remain at Bayern despite exit links

Matthijs de Ligt himself stated that he would like to stay at Bayern Munich for a longer period amid speculations that he was quitting the team.

Due to De Ligt’s decline in the Bayern hierarchy this season, the centre-defender began to press for a move out of the team in January.Although De Ligt was reportedly up for sale at the end of the season, Sky Germany and other outlets stated at the time that Bayern had declined to sell in the winter market.

De Ligt has denied reports that Man Utd is the team’s primary summer centre-back target, saying that neither he nor his colleague Jamal Musiala will be leaving.

Matthijs de Ligt confirms that he plans to stay at Bayern: “I’m not thinking about a transfer, I’m happy at Bayern”. “The club and the fans have always given me a lot of love, I feel good”, told Sky Sports Germany.

Before joining Juventus in the summer of 2019, De Ligt became maybe the most potential young centre-back in Europe during that period. He never reached his full potential at Juventus, though, and in 2022 Bayern Munich paid €80 million for his services.

In Bavaria, De Ligt agreed to a five-year contract that expires in 2027. De Ligt is one of Bayern’s most-paid players, and according to Sky Germany, he might depart this summer if the appropriate offer materialises.De Ligt will be eligible for Sunday’s match against Werder Bremen despite suffering a knee injury throughout Bayern’s winter training camp in Portugal.

After failing to start any of Bayern’s first four Bundesliga games, it was earlier in the season that reports surfaced that De Ligt was growing “increasingly annoyed” with his lack of playing time. Ronald Araujo of Barcelona, who may leave the Catalan giants this summer, has drawn interest from Bayern, raising doubts over De Ligt’s long-term future.
