Harry Kane becomes first English player to score 10 goals in single Champions League season

The England international has been in brilliant form for the German club.

Harry Kane’s goal against Bayer Leverkusen saw him net his tenth goal in the competition, making him the first Englishman to score ten goals in a single Champions League campaign.

After the second leg of Bayern Munich‘s triumph over Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16, Vincent Kompany’s side prevailed 5-0 on aggregate. He surpassed his own record. Kane had scored eight goals during Bayern’s run to the semifinals in the 2023–24 season.

The England captain has scored ten goals in just 11 games this season, which is an amazing rate. Furthermore, if Bayern manage to advance till the final, Kane could participate in five more Champions League games this season. Those games will surely help him set a strong record for this category.

The 31-year-old’s goal at Leverkusen on Tuesday night virtually guaranteed the German powerhouses a spot in the quarterfinals.

After scoring twice in the 3-0 first-leg triumph, Kane’s well-taken goal in the 52nd minute of the return leg put the match beyond the defending Bundesliga champions. Alphonso Davies was then set up by the former Tottenham great to make it 2-0 in the evening and 5-0 overall.

After David Beckham (16 goals, 36 assists), Kane became the second Englishman in Champions League history to reach 50 goal contributions (39 goals, 11 assists).

With Bayern leading Leverkusen by eight points at the top of the Bundesliga standings, Kane is hoping to snap his trophy drought of a lifetime this season.

With 21 league goals in 23 matches so far this season, the Englishman leads the German league’s goalscoring rankings as well. In his first season with the Bavarian team following his £82 million transfer from Spurs in 2023, Kane set several records.

In April, Bayern are going to face Inter Milan in the Champions League quarterfinals. To set up the tantalizing match, the Serie A leaders easily defeated Feyenoord 4-1 on aggregate on Tuesday.
