Curacao saw their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign come to an end with a 2-0 loss to Ivory Coast in their final Group E clash at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 25. The result meant that the Blue Wave finished bottom of the group with just a solitary point.
Ivory Coast got the breakthrough in the seventh minute. Yan Diomande capitalised on a defensive error by the Caribbean side before feeding the ball to Nicolas Pepe, with the former Arsenal man finding the back of the net.
Needing a win to stay alive in the contest, the Blue Wave pushed hard for an equaliser. Leandro Bacuna and Tahith Chong had opportunities in the first half, but they failed to capitalise on them. Pepe then killed the game in the 64th minute with a fine finish.
The result marked the second defeat of the campaign for Curacao, who made their debut in the quadrennial tournament in the expanded 48-team edition in North America. They had begun their campaign with a 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Germany, before securing a hard-fought goalless draw with Ecuador.

Are Curacao out of FIFA World Cup 2026?
Yes. Coming into the match, they needed to beat Ivory Coast and hope that Ecuador failed to beat Germany to have any chance of progressing to the Round of 32. Unfortunately for Dick Advocaat’s men, neither result went their way tonight.
Germany suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Ecuador, while the Elephants surfed the Blue Wave with ease. As a result, the tiny Caribbean nation finished bottom of the group, three points behind the third-placed Ecuador.
This means that their debut campaign in the World Cup comes to an end. Despite suffering two bruising defeats, Advocaat’s side have played fearless football. They became the smallest nation by population and number to qualify for a World Cup, and even managed to clinch a point against La Tricolor.
