I know that Pep Guardiola likes my football: Bruno Guimaraes

The Brazilian has been courted by defending the Premier League champions.
In light of transfer rumours linking Bruno Guimaraes to Manchester City, the Newcastle star has spoken up about a conversation he had with Pep Guardiola.
Despite agreeing to an extension of five years at Newcastle last season, the Brazilian was strongly linked to a move to the English champions this summer. A ÂŁ100 million ($128 million) release clause in the new contract could have been invoked until June 2024, but none of the clubs, including the Cityzens, chose to pursue Guimaraes.
Bruno Guimaraes is now the Newcastle United club captain
Guimaraes is now the club captain and has made 14 appearances for the Magpies in all competitions since the 2024–25 season began. He has now discussed his status at St. James’ Park and shared specifics of his conversation with City manager Guardiola.
Speaking to Globo Esporte, the midfielder said: “I believe that at my club I am an idol and I have a lot of respect. I am the captain of Newcastle and it is something that if you had asked me three years ago, my biggest dream would have been to play in the Premier League. Playing, being an idol, being captain is something wonderful. I really like Newcastle.
“Of course, having Manchester City’s suggestions shows that I am at a high level, but it was nothing more than suggestions. I know that Guardiola likes my football, it is normal to have great coaches who admire your football. We have spoken once, I praised his work, he praised my work, but it was nothing more than that.”
City are aware that they will need a midfielder soon who can either replace Kevin de Bruyne or Rodri in future. Meanwhile, Guimaraes will be a great replacement for Rodri if City are to bring the Brazilian.
The Magpies captain will play for the team on Monday when Eddie Howe’s team hosts West Ham after making an appearance for Brazil in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers during the international break.
