The club’s board will hope that Messi signs a new deal soon.

Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas revealed, “All the stars are aligning,” when asked about Lionel Messi’s contract situation. He is certain that Messi is going to stay with the MLS team through 2026.

When the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner first arrived in South Florida in 2023, he agreed to a two-and-a-half-year deal. At the conclusion of the current campaign, said terms are scheduled to expire.

Messi’s contract does, however, have a 12-month renewal option. Given that Inter Miami are naturally eager to retain the Argentine GOAT on their roster for as long as possible, the club will hope that Messi signs a new deal soon.

The Herons board, including David Beckham, is making every effort to keep Messi in the boat. Regularly vying for big trophies will help that cause, and advancement to the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals is another testament to the club’s ambition for a trophy under the Argentine.

When questioned for an update on Messi’s future, Jorge Mas informed Futbol de Primera:

“My expectation is that we will see the team’s captain and number 10, Lionel Messi, in the new stadium. It’s a decision. We are talking with him about his future at the club.

“All the stars are aligning for really great things, a beautiful future for the club and for Lionel. It’s up to him, but I anticipate we will determine this in the next 60 or 90 days because it’s important to start planning ahead.

“He will be another member of the club [when he’s done playing], an acting shareholder, and he wants to leave that as a legacy to his children. We have a very nice, respectful relationship with him, and I let him live his things peacefully.”

Messi has scored 42 goals for the Herons in 48 games, including a brace that helped Inter Miami defeat LAFC in the Champions Cup quarterfinals. As the current MLS MVP, he will be looking to add the Concacaf trophy to his impressive collection this season.
