The Herons are in Group A of the tournament.
Argentina great Lionel Messi will captain Inter Miami’s FIFA Club World Cup 2025 roster, which was revealed on Wednesday.
On Saturday, June 14, at Hard Rock Stadium, Inter Miami, led by Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suárez, take on Al Ahly to open the FIFA Club World Cup event.
With a 32-team playing tournament, the Club World Cup has been redesigned and will be held in the United States from June 14 to July 13. Additionally, the competition will serve as a prelude to the FIFA World Cup, which the US will host next year.
Along with LAFC and the Seattle Sounders, the Herons are one of three Major League Soccer teams participating in the event. Given the field, the chances are weighted against weaker teams and the Herons are seen as the underdogs in the event, who will hope to cause some heartbreak against big sides.
Although Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain are considered favourites, there may be some unpredictable elements to the event. Not to mention the larger set of strong opponents, which includes Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Juventus, and others.
Although Inter Miami have 29 players at the event, coach Javier Mascherano is likely to use his strong starting lineup whenever feasible. This can be particularly true if they advance past their groups and hope to go far in the competition.
However, it won’t be easy, given that they are in a tough group which consists of Palmeiras, FC Porto and Al Ahly. Inter Miami will have to punch above their weight to secure a place in the knockout round.
