Italy announce squad for October international break; Federico Chiesa left out

Gli Azzurri will face Israel and Belgium in UEFA Nations League games.
Italy hope to capitalize on their strong start in UEFA Nations League Group A2 when they play Belgium and Israel in the upcoming round of games. They have won their first two games, including a 3-1 victory over France.
Following an impressive performance under AC Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca defender Matteo Gabbia has earned his first call up the national team.
Sandro Tonali, who joined Newcastle United in 2023, was the last Milan player to play for the Azzurri. Gabbia is the first Rossoneri player to be picked in the Italy team in nearly 600 days.
Daniel Maldini of Monza, who will hope to emulate his father Paolo and grandpa Cesare, all past Italy captains, was also included in the squad.
Maldini replaces Matteo Zaccagni of Lazio. He has appeared in seven games in all competitions this season, recording one goal and one assist.
The injured Alex Meret of Napoli has been replaced by Michele Di Gregorio, the goalkeeper for Juventus, who has also received a first call-up to the senior squad.
Niccolo Pisilli of AS Roma was also included in the team, taking the place of Atalanta player Marco Brescianini, who has just experienced an injury setback.
Spalletti’s 23-man squad comprised Guglielmo Vicario, Riccardo Calafiori, Caleb Okoli, Destiny Udogie, and Tonali, five Premier League players.
Meanwhile, Federico Chiesa of Liverpool has not been called up for the Italy matches for the upcoming October.
