The Azurri will be hoping to book a spot in the competition.
Gennaro Gattuso, the coach of Italy, has selected his 28-man roster for the World Cup play-off, dropping Guglielmo Vicario and adding Federico Chiesa.
Gattuso’s team for the 2026 World Cup play-off was confirmed by the FIGC on Friday. Chiesa, a winger for Liverpool, rejoins the squad for the first time since 2024. Chiesa last participated in a national team match against Switzerland in the Round of 16 of Euro 2024.
Despite being hurt during Wednesday’s Champions League game against Barcelona, Newcastle star Sandro Tonali is included in the team. The former Milan star’s examinations on Thursday actually ruled out a major muscular lesion.
Gattuso has selected Elia Caprile, Marco Carnesecchi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Alex Meret, while Vicario of Tottenham is left off the squad. Marco Palestra of Cagliari receives his first senior call-up.
