Joao Cancelo has appeared in 24 league games for Barcelona this season
Barcelona have released their final roster for Sunday evening’s crucial matchup with Atletico Madrid. Barcelona’s final match before ending their international will be with Diego Simeone’s side. This is also a match that the Catalans have to win in the larger scheme of the championship chase.
But it looks like Barça will have to do without Joao Cancelo, a vital player, as he was left out of the squad for the match against Atletico Madrid. Diario SPORT claims that “physical discomfort” is the correct explanation from Barcelona for Cancelo’s withdrawal.
The Portuguese international may have suffered a minor injury before this match, which would require Xavi Hernandez to make some significant adjustments to the starting lineup.Xavi will suffer a great deal from Cancelo’s absence, particularly given the team’s left-back injury crisis.Because Alejandro Balde has been battling injuries, Xavi has been forced to start Cancelo at left-back. However, Xavi might need to try some new things because both of them are out against Atletico.
Strangely, Barcelona declared Marcos Alonso’s medical release at the same moment that they revealed Cancelo was out of the starting lineup. The former Chelsea player seems to be included in the team to face Atletico Madrid. However, considering the defender’s injury history and limited playing time this season, Xavi may want to consider his other choices.

The most logical choice to take Cancelo’s place at left-back is Sergi Roberto. Coach Xavi also has Hector Fort as a possibility, but given the young player’s inexperience, he may not be as safe against the well-trained Atletico front line.
Barcelona would be prepared to pay a lower transfer fee in Cancelo’s instance. Based on his age and his wish to play exclusively for Barcelona, the team feels that City should allow him to leave for a fair price—no more than $20 million. Or maybe they could extend his credit.
Mendes, who Pep Guardiola does not rely on, will bring this to City when they visit Manchester shortly to talk about the player’s predicament.
The Portuguese agent visited Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director, and Joan Laporta a few weeks ago in Barcelona. In the locker room, Cancelo is well-liked for his outstanding leadership and integration, particularly during stressful and high-pressure situations.
