John Murtough to step down from as Manchester United Sporting Director after more than one decade of service

John Murtough was Man United Sporting director for more than 10 years
The football administrator John Murtough of Manchester United has resigned from his position and will depart the team this week, as United hopes to appoint Newcastle United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth who has been put on gardening leave by the Magpies.
The club will confirm his departure as they proceed with significant business in preparation for the upcoming campaign. Jason Wilcox, director of football at Southampton, will take over as the team’s technical director in the meantime. If a deal can be completed with the Championship team, United expects Wilcox to start in the new position in the coming weeks. But before United can hire Ashworth, they might have to wait a little while longer. Prior to becoming Manchester United’s first-ever football director in 2021, Murtough was appointed head of football improvement in 2016.
Dan Ashworth will take over as Murtough’s successor at Old Trafford, where he has worked for more than ten years.

The modification serves as more evidence of INEOS’s recent reorganisation in the wake of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority ownership of the team.Murtough worked for Premier League teams Fulham and Everton before joining the team in 2013. Jason Wilcox, the sporting director of Southampton, will also be joining Ashworth at Old Trafford.
Ornstein also implies that Murtough has made the decision to sit back and let the new arrangement develop, which means he will leave Old Trafford after little more than a decade. Ratcliffe’s goal is to get Wilcox and Ashworth into the building as quickly as possible so they can launch a transfer market offensive later in the year.Journalist Ben Jacobs stated to GIVEMESPORT back in March that INEOS was currently evaluating every member of the club, and that everyone on the backroom crew was being examined.
