Lionel Messi breaks most assists record at international level; overtakes Neymar

The Inter Miami forward provided two assists in Argentina’s 6-0 win against Puerto Rico.

Lionel Messi has now broken another record, while in other news, the sky is blue. Breaking and setting records have been the norm in his playing career. Despite being in the latter stages of his career, the former Barcelona star still has what it takes to be the greatest of all time.

Lionel Messi’s Argentina thrashed Puerto Rico 6-0, but it was surprising to see the 38-year-old not on the scoresheet. However, the forward did have a two-goal contribution as he managed to provide two assists.

Following his two assists, Messi also set yet another record, taking his assist tally at the international level to 60, and overtaking Neymar, who has 59.

He now holds the most assists at the international level; moreover, he is two assists away from recording 400 career assists in his playing days.

Given that Argentina’s October international break friendlies are over, the 38-year-old can now return to club football action and reach the huge milestone while playing for Inter Miami.

This season, Lionel Messi has been at his best-ever form for the MLS club. He has scored 26 goals, leading the MLS top scorer list with the most assists as well.

Meanwhile, he has already made a big contribution and guided the national team to a World Cup spot next year.

Despite not winning the Supporters’ Shield trophy with Inter Miami this time, Lionel Messi still has a chance to end the season with some silverware as the Herons will compete in the MLS playoffs for the MLS Cup.

Last season, they were eliminated from the tournament despite winning the Supporters’ Shield. However, this time they have another shot at finishing the campaign with this trophy.

Meanwhile, Messi still has a few records in reach to conquer. He will be keeping a close eye on them if he continues in the same form until the end of the season. Despite the age of 38, he has set an impressive benchmark for himself.
