Liverpool name 29-man squad for pre-season tour 2025; Federico Chiesa left out

The Reds will travel to Asia for their pre-season tour

Federico Chiesa has not been named in Liverpool’s pre-season travelling squad to Asia, owing to a fitness issue.

The team travelling to Hong Kong for a friendly match against AC Milan on Saturday, July 26, includes Alexis Mac Allister. After missing the last two games of the previous season due to injury, the Argentine has not participated in either of the Reds’ preseason games against Preston and Stoke City.

Since Liverpool’s players resumed preseason training, Mac Allister has been training alone at Kirkby. However, his position in the tour squad indicates that Arne Slot thinks he might be prepared to play against Milan or Yokohama F. Marinos.

On Wednesday, July 30, the Reds will travel to Japan to play Yokohama F. Marinos. On August 4, they will return to England for a back-to-back friendly against Athletic Club.

Even though Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz appear to be departing Liverpool this summer, they are both included in the travelling squad.

In a friendly played behind closed doors at the AXA Training Centre on Sunday, Nunez scored a hat-trick as Liverpool defeated Stoke 5-0. The Uruguayan was positioned in the attack that also featured Florian Wirtz, Mohamed Salah, and Rio Ngumoha, who scored the goal.

Chiesa entered the field as part of Arne Slot’s 11 changes after Liverpool had a 4-0 lead at halftime. Given that he was well enough to play 45 minutes just hours prior, Chiesa’s exclusion from the tour squad due to fitness concerns is puzzling, given that he scored in the second half.
