Luis de la Fuente issues fresh Lamine Yamal injury update ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026

On Monday, Spain’s coach, Luis de la Fuente, announced a 26-man World Cup team that includes Lamine Yamal. The FC Barcelona player had picked up an injury, which almost put a dent in his hopes of playing in the World Cup.
Spain, which advanced to the round of 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and went on to win Euro 2024 spectacularly, are one of the favourites to win this summer’s competition. They will start on June 15 against Cape Verde and then play Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in Group H.
De la Fuente stated he had “no doubt” that Yamal, Nico Williams, and Mikel Merino would be prepared for Spain’s opening match in Atlanta, despite concerns about their fitness.
After selecting the Barcelona teenager for his World Cup 2026 team, Spain manager Luis de la Fuente provided an update on Lamine Yamal.
Yamal is currently sidelined due to a hamstring injury, although it is anticipated that he will recover in time for the tournament’s opening match. However, there has been discussion that he might not participate in Spain’s opening match as a precaution.

After naming the squad, De la Fuente was asked for an update. He gave the following response.
“We won’t rush any process. The dates and the report we have indicate that everyone will be available for either the first or second match,” he told reporters.
“We won’t take any risks, but if players want to take risks, it’s at a World Cup. We’ll take some risks if necessary. We have to win every match. If they don’t play, it’s because I don’t think they should play.”
Barcelona will undoubtedly be praying that no chances are taken with him if Yamal does see a relapse of his hamstring injury.
