Top five managers for Nottingham Forest job after Sean Dyche sacking

Forest sacked their third manager of the season.

Nottingham Forest have now relieved Sean Dyche of his duties. It was the third sacking they have done so far in the season. The club’s turbulent run started when they decided to dismiss Nuno Espírito Santo, which led to the appointment of Ange Postecoglou.

Under Dyche’s reign, Forest fell further into the pit and remained winless under him, which propelled the board to sack him. Now he has also gone. The club are all set to look for a new manager.

We list five ideal head coaches for the job.

Top five managers to take the Nottingham Forest job after Sean Dyche’s sacking

5. Vitor Pereira

Although Viktor Pereira’s stint at Molineux ended badly, he had made a pretty good escape the year before. It should not be forgotten that he brought safety to an unimpressive Wolves team by motivating them to win five straight games about this time last season.

It wasn’t a coincidence that he was spotted having a good time with his supporters. It’s simple to understand why the Portuguese manager is the front-runner to succeed Sean Dyche.

The catastrophe of 2025–2026 taints his overall record, yet he overcame it for three pivotal months, demonstrating that there were undoubtedly more significant problems at hand.

4. Enzo Maresca

Why not try another obstinate manager who is rigid in his tactical methods and won a European trophy for a London side the previous season?

Enzo Maresca has a strong resume in England to date and is currently available, just like everyone else on this list. Another question is whether the Italian could give Nottingham Forest stability.

Instead of beating the drop, his style seems more appropriate for teams looking to gain ground and challenge higher up the table. Would he be able to help Nottingham Forest survive a legitimate relegation scrap?

3. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Could Ole be convinced after losing to Michael Carrick for the position of interim head coach of Manchester United till the end of the season?

However, it would be a significant step down from where he could have been. Moreover, Solskjaer’s lack of recent managerial experience may not make him the best candidate for such a demanding post at this stage of the season.

2. Thomas Frank

He flourished at Brentford, where he could employ a more proactive style and get away with it, but he wasn’t cut out for a larger team.

Thomas Frank’s ability to function in the bizarre environment at Nottingham Forest may be the key question, along with whether he is prepared to jump right back in following a traumatic experience at Tottenham.

At Brentford, everything was eventually customised for him. At Spurs, this was not the case. These are genuine fears around Frank, who otherwise could do a good job at Forest.

1. Roberto De Zerbi

Roberto De Zerbi

Roberto De Zerbi has a lot of potential as a coach who can quickly get his sides playing beautiful, fast, visually appealing football.

However, it is debatable if it is what Nottingham Forest actually need at this time. Ange Postecoglou planned to accomplish the same thing but failed miserably. This kind of danger is definitely beyond Forest’s means in the middle of the season.

One of these guys might be proven correct if they stick with an interim and try to be ambitious over the summer, but not with this much on the line.

Who is the ideal coach for Forest?

Vitor Pereira has been the most linked person to the job.

Who are the other managers without a club?

Some good names include Maresca, Frank and Roberto De Zerbi.
