Lucas Paqueta has been on Manchester City’s wishlist

According to Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato, Manchester City have agreed on personal terms to sign Brazil midfielder Lucas Paqueta on a long-term contract.

There are no ongoing talks between West Ham and Manchester City. However, the agents of the player believe that both clubs will negotiate in the summer.

The report further states that the two clubs had previously been on the way towards an agreement of somewhere between City’s highest offer of €101million [£86.6m] and the Irons’ higher request of €110m [£94.3], and Pep Guardiola’s side still have their eye on the West Ham star.

Interest from the north-west club emerged following Kevin De Bruyne’s long-term hamstring problem, as well as Ilkay Gundogan’s departure for FC Barcelona, and a concern within the club that Pep Guardiola would not have the necessary depth at his disposal to compete.

Guardiola’s insistence on recruiting Paqueta could come at the cost of Jack Grealish, whose future seems less than assured. Bernardo Silva is another the Hammers midfielder could replace.

Despite that deal collapsing due to an ongoing Football Association investigation into gambling allegations, Manchester City appear to remain interested in the player’s services, and negotiations could resume in the coming weeks.

The midfielder has excelled since moving from Lyon to West Ham and became an essential part of the team that won the Europa Conference League last season when the London side beat Fiorentina 2-1.

As for Paqueta, even though he only signed for David Moyes’ side less than two years ago, a standout two campaigns have seen the midfielder’s stock rise, with Guardiola clearly a fan and believing he is the right coach to take the 26-year-old to the next level.

Since joining the Hammers, Paqueta, who has up to four years left on his contract, has scored 13 goals and registered 14 assists in 77 games in all competitions.
