City will take on Blauw-Zwart on matchday eight in the UEFA Champions League.

Manchester City are outside of the playoff spots in the Champions League table ahead of their final game in the league phase of the competition. They will be up against Club Brugge on Wednesday night. An underwhelming campaign has left the Cityzens down in the 25th spot in the Champions League table, two points behind the 24th-place Stuttgart.

Pep Guardiola’s side need to win this match to stand any chance for the playoffs. The English Champions will enter this match off the back of a morale-boosting result, having come from behind to record a 3-1 victory over Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

On the other hand, Club Brugge are already in the playoff spot but they will have to earn a point at least to ensure their place. Facing City away from home is not an easy task despite their inconsistent performance this season. In seven games, they have won three, drawn two, and lost two games and have 11 points on board, three more than Guardiola’s team. They do have players who are capable of creating upset away from home.

Location: Etihad Stadium

Form

Manchester City (in all competitions): W-L-W-D-W

Club Brugge (in all competitions): D-D-W-W-W

Players to Watch

Omar Marmoush (Manchester City)

Marmoush has a compact and agile body frame, with a low centre of gravity allowing him to drive through tight spaces. He works extremely hard and is hard to defend against. His pace makes him an awkward opponent for defenders when he runs behind them.

His non-stationary position provides deception for defenders, leaving them with uncertainty about where to cover, where to mark and how to mark. He combines technicality and physicality, effective in both scoring goals and providing assists. Marmoush is relentless off the ball. In 17 Bundesliga games, he had scored 15 goals and provided nine assists.

Christos Tzolis (Club Brugge)

His physical attributes help him not to get shrugged off the ball easily. Tzolis is quite versatile and can play any position across the frontline, although playing on the left is his strongest position. The Greek likes to drift between the left flank and the halfspace, constantly creating combinations and positional interchanges with the fullback as well as positioning himself in the box quite a lot.

Tzolis plays more of a second striker at times rather than a winger, making intelligent runs into the box and getting himself into excellent goalscoring positions just as a striker would. In 22 games, he has scored seven goals and provided five assists.
