Mason Greenwood has scored six goals this season
There are allegedly disagreements between Getafe and Manchester United regarding whether the Red Devils have exercised their option to extend Mason Greenwood’s deal.
Manchester United have a contract with the attacker, who is currently on loan at Getafe, until 2025, but the Premier League team has the option to activate a 12-month addition.
Last summer, Greenwood was moved on loan to the Spanish team by United, who felt he should launch his career outside of Old Trafford.
The judgement was brought about by an extensive internal club inquiry following the dismissal of charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault resulting in actual injury by the criminal justice system.
Getafe are supposedly keen to sign Greenwood long-term because of his impressive play while with the Madrid-based team. Although there are a number of other clubs interested in signing the England international with just one cap, it is reported that conversations have taken place over a move.

Greenwood will likely return to United when his loan agreement expires in the summer. The 22-year-old’s potential return to the team has not yet been decided by minority stakeholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The Athletic reports that Getafe believes United have exercised its right to extend Greenwood’s contract through 2026. It’s said that representatives who attended transfer negotiations departed knowing the player would have two years left on his contract in the summer.Manchester United are said to contest the assertion. Although clubs are not required to formally declare contract renewals, they usually notify the media as soon as agreements are finalised.
When a player’s contract is about to expire, United usually looks to extend it for another 18 months. The Red Devils are cognizant of the public attention focused on this particular situation, though.
According to the article, United maintains that no decision has yet been made about the player’s contract extension. They maintain that no discussions with Greenwood, his family, or any other clubs have taken place over that issue. If United wants to activate the grace period, they have until May 2025 to do so. It indicates that making a decision quickly is not necessary. A few months back, INEOS CEO Ratcliffe expressed his desire to have a meeting with Greenwood before making any decisions regarding his future.
