The Red Devils have barely been active in the summer window.

Thanks to shrewd transfer clauses, Manchester United are expected to profit millions from trades involving their former players.

Since the conclusion of the previous season, the Red Devils have added two players: teenage defender Diego Leon and Matheus Cunha.

They are still in discussions with Brentford on a possible transfer for Bryan Mbeumo, who is said to have reached a personal agreement.

Despite a few of their present stars requesting to leave the team, United have not yet sold any players. Tyrell Malacia, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Marcus Rashford are reportedly considering summer departures.

They no longer participate in routine training sessions and only report to Carrington at the end of the day when the first team has finished.

In order to raise funds that can be used for other purposes, United will want to begin generating sales. A clever bit of business they did last summer has already brought in millions of pounds.

What happened?

Manchester United are set to pocket a significant windfall of around £15.7 million through sell-on clauses this summer. The club is due 20% of the profit SL Benfica will make on Álvaro Fernádez Carreras’ transfer to Real Madrid. Having initially signed him from United for a modest fee, Benfica are expected to make around £38 million in profit, netting the Red Devils £7.6 million from the deal.

Elsewhere, Anthony Elanga’s transfer from Nottingham Forest to Newcastle United will also benefit United’s books. The Red Devils had inserted a 15% sell-on clause in Elanga’s Forest deal, and with Forest likely to make a £40 million profit, United stand to earn approximately £6 million from the Swedish winger’s move.

In addition, United are set to receive €2.4 million (around £2.1 million) from Maxi Oyedele’s expected €6 million switch to RC Strasbourg from Legia Warsaw, thanks to a 40% sell-on clause. Not long ago, he was featuring on loan at Altrincham—now, his next move will help bolster United’s finances further.

In January, while searching the market for a left-back to fit his system, Ruben Amorim contemplated re-signing Fernandez. Instead, United paid about £15 million for Patrick Dorgu’s services.

What’s next for United?
