United wants to reinforce their defence after Raphael Varane announced he will leave this season

According to talkSPORT, Manchester United are attempting to sabotage Newcastle’s pursuit of Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo, who is out of contract.

With the hopes of making Tosin their first summer acquisition, the Magpies intensified their contract negotiations with him over the weekend.

Tosin Adarabioyo’s transfer to United is still pending, though, as the club’s recently appointed director Jason Wilcox—who assisted in guiding Tosin through Manchester City’s junior system—is eager to bring him to Old Trafford. After announcing Raphael Varane’s exit, United hopes to sign two centre-backs this summer.

This season, injuries have ravaged manager Erik ten Hag’s central defence, keeping players like Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Lisandro Martinez out.

For Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal, the Dutchman was obliged to start Brazilian midfielder Casemiro beside Jonny Evans in defence.

With questions still surrounding the futures of Evans and Maguire, United’s interest in Adarabioyo, who moved from City to Fulham in 2020, might help the Red Devils expand their options in the backline for the upcoming campaign.

Adarabioyo was also a target for Newcastle, who needed to strengthen their back four following a string of injuries. According to reports, Adarabioyo was eager to move to St. James’ Park, and Howe was a major reason behind the defender’s desire to go to the North East.

This season, the 26-year-old has made 20 Premier League appearances for Fulham, tallying two goals. After recovering from a groyne injury, he has grown in importance for Marco Silva’s team, but he hasn’t played in the Cottagers’ last three games.

Adarabioyo started his professional life at Manchester City, but the inclusion of players like Vincent Kompany, Aymeric Laporte, Nicolas Otamendi, and John Stones significantly obstructed his road to the first team.
