Top 10 footballers missing October international break due to injury
This Brazilian Superstar will also miss out
Injuries and football go hand in hand. Players compete in various matches across different tournaments every week which causes physical fatigue. With the introduction of brand-new competitions and the expansion of current ones, the football calendar is more stacked than ever.
Many players have criticized governing bodies like FIFA and UEFA for their lack of empathy towards the athletes and their fitness. Football has seen its highest injury rate in the past few years and as we are gearing up to go on the second international break of the 2024-25 football season, here are the top 10 players missing the October international break due to injury.
10. Dani Carvajal
The Spaniard suffered a horrific injury during Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Villarreal. Following the match, Los Blancos announced that the six-time UEFA Champions League winner had suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Carvajal will not only miss Spain’s Nations League campaign but most likely the entire 2024-25 season.
9. Ronald Araújo
The Uruguayan defender was injured during the 2024 Copa America back in July. He decided to undergo surgery to resolve his frequently occurring hamstring problems. He is expected to return to the pitch around November and will miss Uruguay’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
8. Rodri
Rodri got injured during Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal in late September. Pep Guardiola revealed that the Spaniard has already undergone surgery on his ACL and some meniscus. He will be a big miss for both club and country as we will only return in the 2025-26 football season.
7. Kai Havertz
Kai Havertz has started this season on an excellent note. He has already netted six goals in his opening 10 games. He was finally repaying the trust Mikel Arteta put on him and was named in Germany’s initial squad for the upcoming Nations League. However, he will miss out on the October international break due to a knee injury.
6. Ferran Torres
Ferran Torres suffered a suspected hamstring tear during FC Barcelona’s 3-0 win against Deportivo Alavés. The Spanish forward asked to come out just three minutes into the game. He will miss the remainder of October due to this injury and is expected to be sidelined for three weeks.

5. Paulo Dybala
Just when it seemed that the Argentine would break out into the national team, he suffered yet another injury. Paulo Dybala scored in Argentina’s 3-0 win over Chile last month and was called up for matches against Venezuela and Bolivia as well. However, he suffered a muscle injury and is only expected to be back in late October.
4. Kevin De Bruyne
The Belgian sustained a thigh injury against Inter Milan in September. He will miss out on Belgium’s matches against Italy and France as he is still in the midst of his recovery. On top of that, Belgium boss Domenico Tedesco announced that the Manchester City player has also asked to be left out of November’s matches as well to take care of his body.

3. Frenkie De Jong
The Dutchman has recently returned to the pitch after a lengthy absence due to an ankle injury. Hansi Flick has started giving him some minutes to integrate him into this new system but Frenkie is not fit to start a game. He is a key piece for Ronald Koeman’s men but they’ll have to wait a little longer to get him back among them.
2. Kylian Mbappe
The Frenchman joined Real Madrid in the summer on a free transfer from PSG. Mbappe has already scored seven goals for his new club but suffered a muscle injury during the Madrid derby last month. Even though he played against Villarreal, he will miss the international break in October.
1. Vinicius Jr
The latest player on Real Madrid’s injury list is Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian suffered a cervical injury and won’t feature for Seleção in their upcoming games against Chile and Peru. The winger will be a huge miss for them as they are currently sitting on the 5th spot in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers table.
