Salah and Liverpool are yet to agree on his contract renewal terms.

Mohamed Salah has been blamed for engaging in “mind games” with Liverpool over an extension of his contract because he “can do what he wants” to secure a mega-money deal.

Salah’s current contract is scheduled to expire in the summer of 2025, thus fans and commentators have been speculating about his future. The Egyptian forward, who is perhaps Liverpool’s best player from the Premier League era, recently caused a stir when he openly criticized the team for what he said was a lack of effort to sign him to a long-term contract.

Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has taken Salah’s press pronouncements about his contract status as a calculated attempt to drive the board into negotiating better terms.

Johnson addressed Betfred, saying:

“There’s clearly a lot of games going on and Mo knows that he’s in a powerful position. He’s playing the game and probably wants to stay, but he’s just using all these tactics to get himself an extra few years more than Liverpool want to give him or whether it’s money or whatever.

“He knows he’s in the driving seat and can pretty much do what he wants. He may feel like talking to the press is his last resort and so he can let people know that he wants to stay.”

According to reports, Liverpool have taken action to resolve the contract standoff in reaction to the growing storyline. The Athletic claims that the team has made Salah’s representatives a first offer, expressing their intention to keep the attacker after his current deal expires. However, neither party has reached a firm agreement, suggesting that the conversations are still ongoing.

Salah has been in incredible form this season, scoring 16 goals and dishing out 12 assists in 27 games across all competitions, despite the contract controversy.

When Liverpool play Fulham at Anfield on Saturday in a crucial Premier League match, supporters will be excited to watch their star man in action.
