Morocco announce squad for AFCON 2025; Achraf Hakimi included

The host nation is one of the favourites to win the competition.
Morocco coach Walid Regragui has selected a formidable 28-man roster as they get ready to host the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, which begins on home soil in just 10 days.
The top players in the nation, including Achraf Hakimi, Yassine Bounou, Sofyan Amrabat, and attacker Youssef En-Nesyri, are part of the team that was revealed on Thursday.
Regragui maintained that Hakimi’s leadership is too crucial to overlook, even though he recently had a severe ankle injury and is anticipated to miss the opening few games.
Morocco, who are considered favourites following a record 18 straight wins, are under tremendous pressure going into the competition. Nothing less than a championship—their first since 1976—is what the home crowd demands.
The spine that advanced to the 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinal and dominated African football for the previous two years is reinforced by Regragui’s final list.
The major concern raised before the announcement of this roster has finally been resolved: coach Walid Regragui has, in fact, called up Achraf Hakimi.
The full-back for Paris Saint-Germain will be the cornerstone of an exceptionally talented Moroccan team. The team will also include Brahim Diaz, Nayef Aguerd, Azzedine Ounahi, Eliesse Ben Seghir, and Noussair Mazraoui.
Expectations for hosting the event are higher. Regragui, who is frequently chastised for his practicality, is aware that the public will only be satisfied if the trophy is raised in Rabat on January 18.
As they embark on their quest for continental glory, Morocco, placed in Group A, will take on Comoros, Mali, and Zambia.
