Morocco welcome the Central African Republic in the round three action of the AFCON qualifiers at the Honneur Stadium aiming to continue their unbeaten streak in the competition. 

Morocco are amongst the best teams in Africa but have suffered a dip in form over the years. This is despite proving themselves as one of the top teams on the back of their remarkable run to the semifinals in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In that competition, they defeated some of the best teams on the road.

Currently, they are doing well in the qualification round, securing consecutive victories in the opening two matches with victories over Gabon and Lesotho. They secured a 4-1 win in the first match over Gabon followed by a narrow 1-0 win over Lesotho. Now, they are set to face Central African Republic in the next two matches, both home and away. 

Meanwhile, Central African Republic have become a good side under the leadership of Raoul Savoy who has made them rigid enough to not break down easily. They are currently languishing in the third spot in the group gathering three points from the opening two matches while being level on points with Gabon.

They began their tenure with a 3-1 win over Lesotho in the opening match followed by a 2-0 loss against Gabon in the last game. With them set to face Morocco in the next two matches, it will be crucial for them to get points here with Gabon and Morocco looking the favourites to progress.

Youssef En-Nesyri (⁠Morocco)

The Fenerbahce man will be the dangerous player to look out for in the upcoming games after consistently delivering for the national team over the years. En-Nesyri had a wonderful campaign last term with Sevilla where he netted 20 goals and provided another two assists to cap off an excellent season. However, since signing for Fenerbahce, he has not been at his best after managing just one goal in eleven matches which is very rare to see given the qualities he brings. 

Geoffrey Kondogbia (Central African Republic)

The Marseille man remains the country’s biggest hope to drag them to another victory here after enjoying an excellent career playing for many top clubs around Europe. After deciding to switch alliances from France to the Central African Republic in 2018, he has made nine appearances for them scoring three goals in the process. Kondogbia’s timely interceptions and tackles in the middle of the park will be crucial in this match to limit the threat of Morocco’s attackers.

Morocco have left out Hakim Ziyech, Noussair Mazraoui and Brahim Diaz due to injury issues. Although Youssef En-Nesyri will be the favourite to lead the line, expect Soufiane Rahimi waiting in the wings after an impressive campaign in the Summer Olympics.

As for the Central African Republic, Raoul Savoy has almost picked the same squad from the last time and will likely field the same eleven that took the field against Gabon.
