Several national teams will play in World Cup qualifiers this month.
The anticipation for the FIFA World Cup 2026 has intensified since the new year began. Football fans worldwide were excited by the group stage draw results in December, 2025, in Washington, DC, but six berths are still up for grabs.
Many nations are yet to learn their fate ahead of the competition. They are set to participate in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers after failing to book a direct place in the competition during the previous process.
Among them are some major nations such as Italy, Sweden and Wales, who failed to secure a direct place in the competition this summer. However, they will have another shot at playing in the event, which will take place in South America.
With four qualifiers from the 16-team European play-offs and two more from the FIFA Play-off Tournament, which will be held in the World Cup 2026 locations of Guadalajara and Monterrey, 22 teams will aim to be among the last six teams to secure a spot in the global showpiece.
