Preview: Netherlands vs Morocco prediction, odds, where to watch, time | FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32

Two teams ranked under 10 in the FIFA rankings lock horns in one of the most anticipated Round of 32 clashes.

Monterrey Stadium (Estadio BBVA) in Guadalupe, Nuevo León, Mexico, gears up to host the Round of 32 fixture of the FIFA World Cup 2026. African champions Morocco and three-time finalists Netherlands lock horns in what is set to be a thrilling contest.

It has been two decades. The Netherlands are yet to lose a single World Cup game in regulation time. Ronald Koeman’s men created havoc in this FIFA World Cup, scoring 10 goals in three games, the joint highest by any team in the group stage fixtures.

After that frustrating 2-2 draw against Japan, the Dutch went on to clinch two big wins over Sweden and Tunisia to occupy the top spot in Group F, also infamously referred to as the Group of Death. Keeping clean sheets, however, has been a concern for the Netherlands. They haven’t kept a clean sheet in seven matches.

The Atlas Lions are unbeaten in their last 31 games and ended their group stage campaign undefeated. They kick-started their campaign after holding five-time world champions Brazil to a 1-1 draw. Post that, they clinched back-to-back wins over Scotland and Haiti to finish jointly with Brazil atop with seven points.

Due to an inferior goal difference, they had to settle for the second spot. The reigning African champions also went on to become the first African team ever to play the FIFA World Cup semi-finals. They would be keen to go all guns blazing against the Dutch to make it to the next round.

The winner of this game will take on either Canada or South Africa in the Round of 16 fixtures. If they advance past it, they will most likely face Germany or France in the potential quarter-finals. Both teams are ranked below 10 in the latest FIFA rankings, making this one of the most anticipated knockout clashes.

The Round of 32 brings a fierce, knockout intensity where reputations matter less than 90 minutes of pure desire. The tournament enters a phase where absolute underdogs can stun football giants. Fans can expect a thrilling, high-stakes battle where any result is possible and either side has everything it takes to win.

Heading to the FIFA World Cup 2026, critics argued that the Dutch lack that creative spark upfront in the absence of Xavi Simmons. But this Sunderland striker, who hardly made just over 10 appearances for the Netherlands, stood tall when his country needed him the most. He has so far scored three goals in the World Cup in two starts.

He had a decent spell with the Black Cats in the EPL. Now, in the FIFA World Cup, he scored a brace against Sweden and also scored against Tunisia in the last game. But Brobbey will be up against a highly robust defensive setup boasting UCL winner Achraf Hakimi, UEFA Europa League winner Riad and Eredivisie winner Salah-Eddine.

The Leicester City midfielder is coming after a highly productive spell with VfB Stuttgart on loan. He is the creative heartbeat of Mohamed Ouahbi’s team. He was part of the Moroccan team that won the FIFA Arab Cup and the AFCON 2025-26 on home soil.

Born and raised in Belgium, El Khannouss proudly represented the Belgian national youth teams before pledging his allegiance to the Moroccan national team. He will be up against Inter Milan’s Denzyl Dumfries in the wings. It will be an interesting player battle to watch out for in the game.

Match Prediction

This has to be arguably one of the most difficult fixtures to predict. Both teams are ranked below 10 in the latest FIFA rankings. The Netherlands are unbeaten in stoppage time in the FIFA World Cup since 2006, and we expect them to continue their feat.

Meanwhile, given Morocco’s form, this seems to be like a game that will go down to the wire in penalties. We expect the Netherlands to win in penalties.

Prediction: Netherlands 1-1 Morocco (Netherlands to win in penalties)
