Sweden recorded a dominant win in their first game at the FIFA World Cup, while the Netherlands drew.

The Netherlands are set to clash against Sweden for the second time in the World Cup. The last time the two sides faced each other was in 1974, when they drew.

However, everything has changed since then. Sweden has failed to defeat the Dutch side since 2011; the two have faced each other twice in the meantime, with Oranje winning one and the other game ending as a draw.

However, in their upcoming Group F clash, the stakes are significantly higher. Ronald Koeman’s men are keen to win their first game of the 2026 edition, while a win for Sweden will mean direct qualification for the last 32.

While the Netherlands played an exciting 2-2 draw against Japan in their opening game, Blågult made a statement by defeating Tunisia 5-1. The Dutch side has a better chance of winning on paper; however, Graham Potter’s side has looked scary since their last game.

One more thing, the two sides will focus on keeping a clean sheet, which has been a point of criticism on both ends.

Pitch Report

The Netherlands will face Sweden in their second match of the ongoing FIFA World Cup

The World Cup between the Netherlands and Sweden will be played at the Houston Stadium (NRG Stadium) in Houston, Texas. The stadium features a state-of-the-art temporary natural-grass pitch under a closed, retractable roof.

Thus, the games at the stadium require advanced LED lighting. Additionally, much like MetLife Stadium, the Houston Stadium also rewards pacey movements and players. The synthetic surface at the pitch could also come in handy for teams that rely on counterattacks.

The roof of the stadium will remain closed for the Netherlands vs Sweden clash to control the intense external Houston heat. Protection from the hot, humid weather becomes crucial for the players, who will have to play the entire game.

As mentioned above, ball movement on the pitch will be swift, and transition play, including counterattacks and quick crosses, will be brief. Thus, the pitch is expected to favour the Swedish attack, especially because they include two tall attackers, Liverpool’s Alexander Isak and Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres, who also each scored a goal in Sweden’s first outing.

When and where will the Netherlands vs Sweden clash be played?

The game will be played at the Houston Stadium on Saturday, June 20.

In which group of the FIFA World Cup 2026 are these two teams drawn?

The two sides are drawn in Group K alongside Japan and Tunisia.
