Newcastle United predicted lineup for Premier League 2024-25 season
The Magpies have all the tools to mount a title charge this season.
Last season was a mixed campaign for Newcastle United as they finished in the seventh position and narrowly missed out on the European places to Chelsea and Tottenham. The team are going through many changes in the background with Paul Mitchell replacing Dan Ashworth, who parted ways with the team to sign for Manchester United.
Eddie Howe will be disappointed with how things ended for them last season after being in the title race for most of the campaign. Nevertheless, Sandro Tonali is back in the team. Tonali along with the new additions can lead the team to the top of the summit this season.
Newcastle United predicted lineup (Formation: 4-3-3)
Goalkeeper: Nick Pope
Nick Pope had a brilliant campaign before his injury which ruled him out for most of the last campaign. He had an impressive run between the sticks for the team, making 15 appearances while keeping five clean sheets. Although Odisseas Vlachodimas has been signed to give tough competition, we expect Pope to start the season as the first-choice keeper.
Right-Back: Kieran Trippier
Kieran Trippier is among the best right-backs in world football after proving his worth for several top clubs. Last season was a fantastic season for him, making 39 appearances for the team and laying on 11 assists in the process. Although he is good at defending, it is his attacking contribution that has stood out over the years as he can put some wonderful crosses into the box.
Centre-Back: Fabian Schar
Fabian Schar is one of the best defenders in the squad. He is technically brilliant and has a good understanding of the game. Schar is a calm and composed defender who is comfortable with the ball and provides excellent distribution. Lately, he has proved to be dangerous in the opposition box as he can strike some thunderous strikes towards the goal.
Centre-Back: Daniel Burn
Daniel Burn is an aggressive defender who does not let his opponents have any space to make an impact. Burn is also a potent threat from set-pieces as his tall physique helps him to get the better of opposition defenders. With Botman currently injured, he has a brilliant chance to contribute to the team in these early matches and stake his claim for the starting berth.
Left-Back: Lewis Hall
Newcastle United activated the clause to make his loan transfer from Chelsea into a permanent one this summer after impressing the hierarchy with his performance in the 2023-24 season. Hall already caught the eye of his new employers last season after delivering some impressive performances against the top six teams. Despite his low frame, Hall is an excellent defender who contributes to the team in both halves.
Central Midfielder: Joelinton
The Brazilian international has become a favourite among the fans for his never-shy attitude, consistently giving his all for the team in every match. Eddie Howe has managed to bring out the best of him and is reaping rewards for the decision. The change of position has worked wonders for him after making some eye-catching displays from the heart of midfield. Alongside Bruno Guimaraes, he is set to start the season in the middle of the park for the Magpies.
Central Defensive Midfielder: Bruno Guimaraes
Probably the most technically sound player in the team who can win matches on his own. Guimaraes has emerged as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League after an impactful season with the club. Last season he netted seven goals and provided another ten assists to cap off a brilliant campaign. He plays the architect role effectively, often setting the tempo of the game with his brilliant understanding.
Central Midfielder: Sandro Tonali
Sandro Tonali is finally back with the squad after serving a ban for a large chunk of last season. Eddie Howe will be delighted to have him back in the team after showing some glimpses of his potential during the opening few matches of the 2023-24 season. Tonali is an excellent passer of the ball and also makes an excellent shift in the middle of the park. He can prove to be the difference for the team this season.
Right-Wing: Harvey Barnes
Harvey Barnes’s debut season didn’t go as he would have hoped for after missing most of the games due to injury. Despite this, Barnes managed to keep a lasting impression on the team after netting five goals and laying on another three assists. Barnes’ ability to use his explosive pace and directness in front of the goal can prove to be useful this season.
Striker: Alexander Isak
The 24-year-old Swedish international has emerged as one of the exciting forwards in the league after an outstanding 2023-24 season. He netted 25 goals for the team last term. Isak is a calm and composed striker who is deadly, takes chances and doesn’t miss many. He has benefitted from the system Howe is deploying, often getting the freehand role to do his job efficiently.
Left-Wing: Anthony Gordon
The England international had one of his best campaigns last term which saw him being called up by the England national team to be a part of the team in the Euros. Gordon made 48 appearances for the club last term netting 12 goals and laying on another 10 assists. He is a pacey forward who uses his pace and trickery to take on defenders with ease. He will be aiming to play an important role for the Newcastle team this season.
