Norway will face Czechie and Slovakia in March

Norway will face the Czech Republic and Slovakia in their March international friendlies. Erling Haaland is set to return to the national stage after missing the last few games with injuries.

One of the handful of national teams that have never suffered a loss against Brazil is Norway. Norway’s experience against Brazil spans four games: two victories and a pair of draws in friendly contests (1988, 1997, and 2006), as well as a 1998 World Cup group-stage encounter.

As of December 2023, the national team had lost 12 straight qualifying matches for major international competitions (FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro) following Euro 2000.

Although they did enjoy an era of glory in the late 1930s, Norway’s results in international football have generally lagged behind those of their Scandinavian neighbours, Sweden and Denmark. In the 1936 Olympics, an Olympic team placed third after defeating the host Germany earlier in the competition.

Norway were also invited to the 1938 FIFA World Cup, however, they were defeated by eventual winners Italy 2–1 in overtime. In 56 years, Norway had not participated in a World Cup before.

The years 1990–1998 saw Norway have their greatest run of success, led by the renowned coach Egil “Drillo” Olsen. When the club was at its best, it was ranked No. 2 in the mid-1990s. Olsen’s professional career with Norway began on October 31, 1990, with a 6-1 triumph against Cameroon at home, and concluded on June 27, 1998, following a 0-1 loss to Italy in the 1998 World Cup’s second stage.Norway won their qualification round and advanced to the 1994 World Cup, defeating not only the Netherlands, who had won the European Championship but also the Netherlands, three-time World Cup contenders, and England, the previous World Cup victors.
