Palestine’s national football team are set to play their first home match of the FIFA World Cup Asian qualifier against Jordan, scheduled for 10th September 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
According to a report published by ‘Football Palestine’, “Sources within the Palestine Football Association (PFA) have confirmed to Football Palestine that FIFA has given the green light for Palestine to host Jordan on September 10th.”
As per the official website of the Palestine Football Association, the national team players reached the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur on Monday, to prepare for their first match against South Korea on the 5th of September, in the third round of Fifa World Cup Asian Qualifiers. As per the statement, they had selected this venue because of the short distance by air between the two countries.
“It’s going to be a home ground. I don’t think I would say it’s a second home. I would say it’s our first home. It’s hard to play in Palestine. The camp here for five days before we go to Korea will be beneficial. Hopefully, it’ll help us in our games against South Korea and Jordan”, stated Palestine’s midfielder Bassim Ahmed Rashid (via Free Malaysia Today)

Earlier this year, Palestine’s national football team recorded their first-ever win in the AFC Asian Cup history by defeating Hong Kong 3-0 in their final group match and advancing to the knockout stage for the first time in their history. They also managed a draw against the United Arab Emirates in their second group match. Their remarkable journey concluded in the round of 16, after being narrowly defeated 2-1 by hosts Qatar.
In June, Palestine qualified for the third round of the FIFA World Cup qualification for the first time after a 0-0 draw against Lebanon secured them second place in their qualification group, behind Australia. In the qualifiers, they secured victories over Bangladesh (5-0 and 1-0) and drew both legs against Lebanon. As a result, Palestine also qualified for the AFC Asian Cup 2027, marking their fourth consecutive appearance in the tournament.
The Palestine national football team has been placed in Group B of the FIFA Asian Qualifiers, where they will face South Korea, Iraq, Jordan, Oman, and Kuwait. Their campaign will kick off against South Korea on 5th September.
Palestine National Football Team are currently ranked at 96th place in the Fifa World Rankings.
