Italy are looking to overhaul their management.

Despite having one year left on his contract with the Premier League‘s top side, Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola is reportedly considering taking over as Italy’s coach in the summer. This is according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Pep Guardiola, the manager of Man City, would gladly accept an offer to take over as the Italy national football team’s coach.

After the election of a new FIGC (Italian Football Federation) President on June 22, Gli Azzurri will select a new head coach.

Despite having a contract that expires in June 2027, Pep Guardiola’s future at Manchester City is far from assured, according to Gazzetta.

Bringing one of the top managers will be a massive coup for the national team. Previously, the former Barcelona coach had commented on managing a national team before retiring from coaching.

Pep Guardiola is not a stranger to Italy and its top league, having played there during his playing career. Guardiola, a former midfielder for Brescia and AS Roma, has developed a close relationship with Italy and could be open to accepting an offer to coach Gli Azzurri.

However, despite reports linking to Italy’s job, Guardiola still has another year left on his City deal. He is yet to decide on his future. The coach is currently focused on leading the Manchester club to the Premier League title.

After losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina in a penalty shootout in the final playoff match for a ticket to the 2026 tournament, Italy once again failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. Gennaro Gattuso and his entire coaching staff were fired as a result.
