Top three Newcastle United players to score in consecutive Champions League games

Only three players have achieved this feat in the Magpies’ history.
Newcastle United have had a chance to witness many top players represent the club in the Champions League and lead them to wins. However, despite their limited trophy achievement, the club have seen their players create history in every competition.
Now, recently, their star player, Anthony Gordon, who has scored three goals in the Champions League this season, has joined an exclusive list of players in the club’s history.
We take a look at players who have scored goals in consecutive Champions League games for Newcastle United.
1. Alan Shearer (2002-03)

Alan Shearer holds the record for most goals scored in Premier League history, having scored 260 goals. He is widely considered one of the greatest strikers of all time. Shearer spent his whole career playing football at the highest level in England.
He became the first Magpies player to score goals for Newcastle United in the Champions League games in a row. His first goal came against Inter Milan in the group stage, where he scored a brace and followed up with another top performance when he netted a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the second game.
However, because Newcastle weren’t regular in the UCL, he didn’t score many goals in the tournament. He has only scored seven goals altogether in 17 matches in the competition.
2. Shola Ameobi (2002-03)
Shola Ameobi scored 79 goals and made 397 official appearances during his 14-year tenure at Newcastle United. On September 9, 2000, he played his first game for the first team at home against Chelsea. After Newcastle’s all-time great Shearer sustained an injury, Ameobi had to step up and take his place as the team’s young striker.
Some of Ameobi’s best performances occurred in the 2002–03 Champions League, such as his equalising goal against Barcelona in a 3–1 loss at the Nou Camp and his two goals against Bayer Leverkusen in a 3–1 win.
1. Anthony Gordon (2025-26)
Anthony Gordon joined the exclusive list after scoring goals in consecutive Champions League games for Newcastle United. The England international already has three goals in the competition, after the first coming in a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona, and the second coming in a 4-0 win against Union Saint-Gilloise.
This makes Gordon only the third player in the club’s history to record consecutive goals in the competition.
