The Switzerland national football team are now shifting their focus to the 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup. The final squad has now been unveiled, and many experienced players have been included.

The Red Crosses did enough during the 2022 edition of the mega competition to get through the group stage. But then they were completely outplayed by Portugal in the round of 16 and got knocked out.

For the 2026 edition of FIFA’s flagship tournament, they are placed in Group B along with the likes of Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar. It is not going to be very easy for them, but they are likely to get through the group stage yet again.

Murat Yakin has now announced Switzerland’s final squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026. But some worthy names have not been included in the list. This can even affect their overall performance at the biggest stage of them all.

Top players missing from Switzerland’s final squad

4. Joel Monteiro

Joel Monteiro sustained a muscle injury. This is the reason he has not been called up to represent Switzerland at the upcoming edition of the mega competition. The 26-year-old was not in top form this season, but was on the standby list to compete for the Red Crosses.

3. Vincent Sierro

The Al Shabab midfielder is not going to represent Switzerland at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Despite being on the field for 26 games for his club, he hasn’t scored a goal or even bagged an assist in the Saudi Pro League. This can be a reason that he might have been left out by Murat Yakin.

2. Alvyn Sanches

Alvyn Sanches competed for the Switzerland national football team during their March 2026 international break and was even in the preliminary squad. He might not have been included due to the competition for the places. Murat Yakin has opted for more consistent players in the team.

1. Filip Ugrinic

Filip Ugrinic is another surprising omission from the final squad for the Switzerland national football team. The 27-year-old midfielder plays for LaLiga side Valencia CF. His performances have not been very top-notch this season.

The Swiss head coach made his decision to not to take him to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
