Reece James gives his verdict on Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi debate

James had missed the entire 2022 FIFA World Cup with a knee injury.
Reece James provided an odd reply when he was asked to pick between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi back in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Given how both players have graced football pitches with their talent over the last 20 years, many other football players are frequently asked whom they prefer – either Messi or Ronaldo. Some say Messi while others say the Portuguese phenom’s name.
Similarly, it was questioned to Chelsea‘s captain. Reece James provided a strange reply and rather named other players he found tough to play against. He said:
”3 hardest players I’ve ever played against are all left wingers! Vinicius Jr, [Rafael] Leao and [Sadio] Mane”
But when he was asked specifically to choose between Messi and Ronaldo the England international just answered the former Real Madrid player’s name. However, he did not provide any reason behind for picking Ronaldo.
In the 2022 World Cup, James missed all of England’s matches due to a knee injury he suffered. Since then the right-back has been prone to injuries.
Meanwhile, James’ GOAT pick, Ronaldo spearheaded Portugal to the FIFA World Cup. But unfortunately, his side couldn’t reach deep into the competition and they were eliminated by Morocco.
However, it was Lionel Messi’s side that went all the way in the tournament and lifted the most coveted trophy of football beating France on penalties in the final.
Since then a lot has changed as both are now plying their trades for different clubs. Messi, who was a PSG player after he won the World Cup is now playing for MLS side Inter Miami while Ronaldo has been faring for Al Nassr since leaving Manchester United during the 2022 winter transfer window.
Meanwhile, James who returned to action after picking an injury before the start of the new season has once again suffered a fresh setback. Now it remains to be seen how long the right-back will be on the sidelines.
