The Tricolours will take on the Dragons in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Romania host Bosnia & Herzegovina on matchday one of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, with both sides looking to make a good start to Group H in order to maximise their chances. Austria, Cyprus and San Marino are the teams which are also in the group. When these two sides last met, Romania won the match by 4-1 and now once again they will look to perform in a similar way.

Romania had a good Euro 2024 campaign and they are in good form as well. Quality-wise they are a much better side but they will have to be at their best to get a good result at home.

Bosnia’s Nations League campaign saw them get relegated from League A Group 3 as they accumulated just two points from six matches, having been matched up to face Netherlands, Germany and Hungary. They also failed to make it to Euro 2024. Currently, they are not in good form.

They do have players who can get them good results but they will have to perform with full confidence and will have to give their best to at least get a point. This will be an exciting and mouthwatering clash for sure.

Players to Watch

Ianis Hagi (Romania)

Hagi is a versatile player who is capable of playing in both wings. His ability to use both feet makes him capable of combining with teammates. When he dribbles he often feints his body from one side to the other which, complemented by his quick feet and agility, contributes to him being effective when attacking an opponent one-on-one.

Hagi’s effectiveness at passing and shooting with both feet makes him even more lethal. Hagi likes to press high up the pitch when he is not in possession and does his defensive duties very well. In 20 games in the Scottish Premier League, he scored three goals and provided five assists.

Benjamin Tahirovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Despite his size, he excels when his side is in possession. He uses intelligent and elegant movements. Tahirovic is adept at manipulating opposing markers.

He reads and anticipates changes to shape and occupy new spaces to provide options to teammates. He relies on his technical ability to facilitate play when his side is in possession. His fluid hips allow him to quickly change direction and he is able to best defenders easily.

Tahirovic’s high rate of scanning helps him to have an awareness of spacing. He uses small turns to get forward-facing to deliver vertical passes. Tahirovic shows a lot of calmness on the ball. He is comfortable under pressure and relies on his pausa to draw defenders.

He is effective in tight spaces and uses a variety of 1v1 skills to create space and change angles. This season he has only played five games in the Danish Super League.
