Ruben Amorim confirms new signing Bryan Mbeumo 'not going to play' against Bournemouth

Mbeumo is yet to make his debut for United.

After missing Manchester United’s opening game win on the US tour, Bryan Mbeumo will have to wait to make his debut. Mbeumo, who cost £71 million to sign from Brentford, did not play for United in their 2-1 victory over West Ham United at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Mbeumo wasn’t involved against West Ham because, according to Ruben Amorim, he is not as fit as the rest of the United team in terms of his preseason training regimen.

Mbeumo ruled out of Man Utd’s Bournemouth clash

In order to improve his fitness before the new season begins, Mbeumo will also not participate in United’s second match of the tour against Bournemouth on Wednesday at Soldier Field in Chicago.

However, Amorim is hopeful that Mbeumo will be fit to play in United’s final tour match against Everton at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta the following weekend.

“Bryan is starting slowly,” said Amorim. “He is not going to play in the next one. We hope to have Bryan in the last game [in the United States]. He’s training now, so we’ll see.”

Bryan Mbeumo was bought by United from Brentford in time for him to go on the preseason tour in the United States. But because he arrived late from Brentford, he was not included in the team against West Ham in New Jersey.

Brentford’s preseason began a week later than United’s. Since Bryan Mbeumo is not considered match-fit, the team is treating the £65 million acquisition cautiously before the upcoming campaign. However, following United’s 2-1 victory over West Ham, Mbeumo participated in a cool-down on the field.

After returning from the United States, United are scheduled to play their final preseason friendly against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on August 9. Eight days later, the team will play Arsenal in their Premier League season opener.
