The English midfielder has hardly received any playing time this season.
If Kobbie Mainoo, an out-of-favour midfielder, asked Ruben Amorim about a January loan move away from Manchester United, the coach says he would be “really pleased.” The 20-year-old’s future at Old Trafford is being questioned due to his inconsistent playing time. To fight for a spot in England‘s 2026 FIFA World Cup ambitious squad, the player could see himself find a new club in the hope of more game time.
This season, Kobbie Mainoo has not started a Premier League game. In 2025–2026, he was only included in a humiliating Carabao Cup loss to EFL League Two team Grimsby Town. All 10 of his appearances in the top division have come off the bench.
Mainoo is considering his options because of the intense competition for spots at Old Trafford, where seasoned players like veteran Brazilian midfielder Casemiro and club captain Bruno Fernandes are occupying midfield positions.
Ruben Amorim opens up about Kobbie Mainoo’s wish to leave the club

Before a meeting with AFC Bournemouth on Monday, Ruben Amorim told reporters whether those talks had taken place. It has been speculated that the Red Devils academy graduate would push for a move in the new year.
“If Kobbie comes to me and talks to me, I will talk to him. I’m not going to say what I’m going to say to Kobbie but I will be really pleased if Kobbie comes to talk to me about that. I just want my players happy and I understand that every individual has their goals.“
As United aim to move up into the top five of the Premier League standings, Mainoo will be hoping to play against Bournemouth. The Red Devils will play Wolves, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa before another transfer window begins on January 1.
