The Brazilian player’s deal will expire at the end of the year.
Santos are now having second thoughts about extending Neymar’s contract, which is set to expire after the end of the year. The club have informed the forward’s father that they are hesitant towards offering the former Barcelona star a new deal.
Moreover, Neymar’s chances of making Brazil’s squad in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup next year are also in danger. The forward has not played for the national team since 2023.
Now, his childhood club are unsure about renewing his deal as they have not been convinced by his performance since his arrival at the team in January.
Santos are not considering extending Neymar’s deal
Neymar’s father held talks with the club to extend his son’s deal as his contract is nearing expiration. But the club are now looking to prepare for life without him. If Santos don’t renew his deal, the 33-year-old might have to start looking for another club as early as January if he has to continue playing football.
His arrival at the club was met with jubilation after he left Saudi club Al-Hilal following an injury-prone time there. However, a similar pattern has followed at the Brazilian club as he continues to struggle with fitness and is currently out injured. Neymar hopes to return to playing in November.
Moreover, he has also been linked with a move to Inter Miami, as the reports reveal that the Florida-based club are looking at the possibilities of reuniting the MSN (Messi, Suarez & Neymar) trio. This trio once formed one of the entertaining attacking partnerships during their time at FC Barcelona.
It will be interesting to see how things pan out for the former Paris Saint-Germain star. His main target is to reach his peak fitness before the 2026 World Cup in North America. He is keen to lead the Selecao to World Cup success before he calls his time at the national team.
