The two sides have already faced each other in a FIFA World Cup game in 2006.

Saudi Arabia will face Spain in their second match of the FIFA World Cup 2026. The game will be played at the Atlanta Stadium in Georgia on Sunday, June 21. The Green Falcons are drawn in Group H of the summer competition alongside Spain, Cape Verde and Uruguay. Interestingly, all four teams of the group have one point each after Matchday 1.

Before the FIFA World Cup, they played warm-up games against Ecuador, Puerto Rico and Senegal. They lost to Ecuador 2-1, defeated Puerto Rico 3-1, and drew with Senegal. In their opening World Cup game, the Green Falcons took the lead over Uruguay in the first half.

However, Maximiliano AraΓΊjo’s equaliser in the 80th minute confirmed that the game ended as a draw. Saudi Arabia are not the favourite to make a deeper run in the competition; however, if they manage to play well against La Roja, they can secure a spot in the knockout stage at the 2026 edition.

In their opening game of the last edition of the World Cup, they pulled off a massive upset by beating defending champions Argentina. Thus, they are not foreign to pulling upsets, and they might not get a better chance than tonight.

The Green Falcons have reached the knockout stage of the summer competition only once. It happened in 1994, when they qualified for the last 16 after wins over Morocco and Belgium. A win can help the Green Falcons add a golden page of glory to their football history books.

Saudi Arabia XI (5-4-1): Mohammed Al-Owais (WK), Al-Harbi, Ali Lajami, Al-Amri, Al-Tambakti, Saud Abdulhamid, Salem Al-Dawsari, Nasser Al Dawsari, Abdulelah Al-Khaibari, Musab Al-Juwayr, Firas Al-Buraikan

Thoughts on the line-up

A rigid five-man backline helps the Green Falcons in being extra cautious by not letting attackers penetrate the wings. Mohammed Al-Owais will keep the gloves behind a defence consisting of Fahad Al-Harbi, Abdulelah Al-Amri, Ali Lajami, Hassan Altambakti, and Saud Abdulhamid.

All five defenders have experience playing in the Saudi Pro League; as a result, they could create trouble for the Spanish side. Abdulelah Al-Amri also scored Saudi Arabia’s only goal of the match against Uruguay.

Salem Al-Dawsari, Abdulelah Al-Khaibari, Nasser Al-Dawsari, and Musab Al-Juwayr will make forward runs and create crosses and chances for their lone frontman, Firas Al-Buraikan.

Who won the Spain vs Saudi Arabia game in the 2006 World Cup?

When and where will the game be played?

The game will be played at the Atlanta Stadium in Georgia on Sunday, June 21.
