Even with Lionel Messi on their team, Sergio Busquets acknowledges that Inter Miami are “not the level to compete” for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup title.

Miami will be one of the underdogs in the competition, looking to cause an upset. Stars such as Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez will lead the club in the event.

This summer, the Herons will participate in FIFA’s enlarged version of the Club World Cup in the United States. Messi’s presence makes them clearly appealing to fans around North America, and they have accepted an exclusive invitation to that tournament.

Along with Al Ahly, Palmeiras, and Porto, Inter Miami—co-owned by Manchester United and England great David Beckham—have been assigned to Group A. Although Busquets has tried to control expectations, fans will want them to make it to at least the knockout stages.

The Club World Cup-winning Barcelona legend has told DAZN: “It’s clear that we’re not at the level to compete in the Club World Cup. But we’ll try to compete in the group, take it game by game, fight, and hopefully move on to the next round, although it’s going to be tough.”

Sergio Busquest’s comments on their Club World Cup ambitions indicate that fans will have to lower their expectations. Although the club will hope to make a good impact, they will be the least favourite to win the tournament.

Messi and Sergio Busquets have won the Club World Cup three times, in 2009, 2011, and 2015 with Barcelona. This season, Messi’s playing time is being carefully controlled, so when another big event starts on June 14, he should be fully recovered.
