The DFB Team have secured a direct qualification for the round of 32.

Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany locked horns with the Ecuador national football team in their final group stage game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The result was not quite what they expected after La Tri secured a shocking 2-1 win against the four-time world champions.

The DFB Team will kick themselves as they failed to secure the third consecutive win on the grandest stage of them all. Their main problem remains the defence. They have conceded goals in all of their group stage outings and this can become a disaster for them in the knockout stage.

The German national football team failed to get past the group stage during the 2018 and 2022 editions of the World Cup. With back-to-back wins in their first two matches, they have secured a direct berth in the round of 32 this year.

Why Germany’s goal should have been disallowed?

Julian Nagelsmann’s side took a 1-0 lead just inside the first couple of minutes after Leroy Sane fired the ball at the back of the net for Germany in their final group stage game of the FIFA World Cup 2026. After the goal, every player of the Ecuador national football team appealed for a foul on Pedro Vite just ahead of the goal.

Aleksandar Pavlović’s foot was quite high and it accidentally made contact with Vite’s face. Despite the appeal, the on-field referee, Mary Victoria Penso, allowed the goal in favour of the Germans.

Based on the situation, it should have been considered a “high boot” by Aleksandar Pavlović and the goal should have been disallowed. Instead, no action was taken against the player and the German national football team were awarded a goal.

Eventually, the game ended in favour of La Tri after a poor performance by the four-time world champions.

Who scored first goal for Ecuador in FIFA World Cup 2026?

Nilson Angulo found the net against Germany.
