All eight sibling pairs at FIFA World Cup 2026

Siblings from different nations will be playing at the World Cup.

FIFA has officially confirmed 48 teams and 1,248 players for the FIFA World Cup 2026, making it the largest tournament in history. But, aside from the tactics, stars, and title contenders, one of the tournament’s most intriguing side storylines is a familial one: eight distinct pairs of brothers will compete in North America.

The distinction between families remaining together and families divided by national allegiance adds to the list’s interest. Four pairs will represent the same country, while four others will wear separate shirts.

It could allow for genuine brother-versus-brother World Cup conflict.

List of all eight siblings to watch out for at the FIFA World Cup 2026

RankSiblingsNations
8 Leandro Bacuna & Juninho Bacuna Curaçao
7Laros Duarte & Deroy DuarteIvory Coast & France
6Quinten Timber & Jurriën TimberNetherlands
5Leo Hernandez & Theo Hernandez France
4Harry Souttar & John Souttar Australia & Scotland
3 Derrick Luckassen Brobbey & Brian BrobbeyGhana & Netherlands
2 Iñaki Williams & Nico WilliamsGhana & Spain
1Guéla Doué & Desire DoueIvory coast & France

8. Leandro Bacuna & Juninho Bacuna (Curaçao)

Curaçao’s FIFA World Cup 2026 team also included brothers Leandro and Juninho Bacuna. FIFA confirmed both players in Dick Advocaat’s final squad. Many team guides characterised them as one of Curaçao’s most well-known football families.

Leandro, the captain, and Juninho will now strive to lead their country to its first World Cup win.

7. Laros Duarte & Deroy Duarte (Cape Verde)

Cape Verde’s World Cup squad features brothers Laros and Deroy Duarte. Both midfielders were chosen for the Blue Sharks’ historic debut on the international stage. Dutch-language media earlier this year highlighted the dream of both brothers representing Cape Verde together in the finals.

6. Quinten Timber & Jurriën Timber (Netherlands)

Ronald Koeman’s final list included twins Quinten and Jurriën Timber, making the Netherlands squad stand out. This provides the Dutch with one of the greatest same-nation sibling partnerships in the competition. This is especially since both are likely to play significant minutes.

5. Leo Hernandez & Theo Hernandez (France)

France will reunite the Hernández brothers, with both Lucas and Théo on Didier Deschamps’ roster. Their double call-up makes Les Bleus one of the most recognisable brother duos in international football. Both are anticipated to play key roles if France makes another long run.

4. Harry Souttar & John Souttar (Australia & Scotland)

The Souttar brothers will likewise be divided among nations. John Souttar is in Scotland’s squad, and Harry Souttar will represent Australia.

The BBC previously reported John’s desire to follow his younger brother to the World Cup in Qatar 2022, after Harry had already represented the Socceroos. Now they will compete in the same finals, but for different countries.

3. Derrick Luckassen Brobbey & Brian Brobbey (Ghana & Netherlands)

Derrick Luckassen and Brian Brobbey form one of the less obvious but equally fascinating brother pairs. Luckassen was included in Ghana’s final squad after replacing the injured Alexander Djiku.

Meanwhile, Brobbey was picked for the Netherlands squad by Ronald Koeman. According to Dutch reports, Derrick is Brian Brobbey’s older brother.

2. Iñaki Williams & Nico Williams (Ghana & Spain)

The Williams brothers are another well-known example of a dual-nationality duo. Iñaki Williams is on Ghana’s squad. Nico Williams is on Spain’s final roster.

Both were born in Spain, but Iñaki chose to represent the country of their parents. Meanwhile, Nico remained with La Roja. That makes them one of the most visible manifestations of football’s expanding global family identities.

1. Guéla Doué & Desire Doue (Ivory Coast & France)

The Doué brothers are undoubtedly the tournament’s most compelling sibling storyline. France selected Désiré Doué, while Côte d’Ivoire named Guéla Doué to the squad.

This means the brothers will play for different countries at the FIFA World Cup 2026. FIFA has already singled out their situation as one of the tournament’s most intriguing family stories.

Which notable siblings will be at the World Cup?

The Doues will be one of the siblings at the World Cup.

How many pairs of siblings are playing for the same nation?

Four.
