The five-time Ballon d’Or winner won the Champions League and Premier League with the Red Devils

Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest Manchester United player of all time, according to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who also disclosed that Sir Alex Ferguson thought the winger was the best footballer he had ever worked with.

Ratcliffe completed an agreement to acquire partial ownership of the club recently, and he now oversees all the football operations at Old Trafford.

The British millionaire, who chairs the petrochemical behemoth Ineos, grew up a Manchester United supporter and has thus witnessed many of the team’s best players.

“George Best, I suppose, was probably the most naturally gifted player I’ve ever seen play football. But I once asked Alex Ferguson who the best player he had ever coached was, and he said Ronaldo. It was the first time I met [Ferguson], actually, at a League Managers Association dinner.”

“Probably [Cristiano] Ronaldo, I guess,” Ratcliffe responded when asked who was the club’s greatest player on the Geraint Thomas Cycling Club podcast. “I remember Bobby Charlton a bit, and he was obviously the legend of Manchester United.

The 71-year-old was eager to highlight Ronaldo—who won his first Ballon d’Or while at the club in 2008—as the finest he has seen, even if he also included Bobby Charlton and George finest.

During his first spell with the football team, Ronaldo produced 84 goals in 196 Premier League games, solidifying his place in the top two ranks of his generation with Lionel Messi. After assisting Ferguson in leading the team to three straight championships and a Champions League trophy, he came to Manchester in 2021 for a less fruitful stint.

The Portuguese striker’s 2008 Ballon d’Or victory was the first of five during his career. The legendary Best was the final Manchester United star to take home football’s greatest individual honour in 1968, two years afterwards Charlton did.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s “Theatre of Dreams”

The area, which gained notoriety as the “Theatre of Dreams,” has drastically changed.Years of neglect by the Glazers have resulted in years of leaks in the roof and obvious symptoms of wear and tear on the ground.Furthermore, Ratcliffe has revealed some details about his intentions for the renowned arena, acknowledging that United may decide to completely destroy the site.

“We can refurbish the ground and do a really nice job of that, that would cost about £1billion and the club can shoulder that burden, but you have got the opportunity if you choose to, to build a completely new ground,” he said.

“And it’d be state of the art, 90,000-100,000. That provides a platform for some of the big competition being in the North.”
