Son Heung-Min's LAFC kit become best-selling jersey in the world; surpasses Lionel Messi & LeBron James

Son’s move to Los Angeles this summer broke a mega record.

According to John Thorrington, the general manager and co-president of the team, Son Heung-min’s LAFC shirt is currently the best-selling jersey of any athlete in the world.

“This is now the second week where we’re not just talking about the highest-selling football jersey in the MLS,” Thorrington told talkSPORT.

“It is the highest-selling jersey of any sport in the world right now.”

The show host, Andy Goldstein asked: “Sorry, can you just reiterate what you’re saying? Who’s jersey, not Son’s? You’re talking about Son’s?”

“I’m talking about Son,” Thorrington confirmed.

“What, more than Messi’s?” Goldstein reiterated, to which Thorrington responded: “Right now, yes.”

“Wow,” Goldstein said, still incredulous. I apologize, but right now, Heung-min Son’s shirt is the best-selling item in the world of football.

Thorrington explained that Son’s shirt is exceeding all athletes worldwide, including Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Cristiano Ronaldo, in addition to all football players.

He said: “If you take from when he signed at LAFC to now, he has sold more jerseys than any other athlete in the world.”

The South Korean superstar departed Tottenham last week to join the MLS team in a league-record £19.5 million deal.

Son is already on par with Lionel Messi, the face of Major League Soccer, despite just having made the move over the Atlantic a few days ago.

Son’s club are now competing with Messi, who plays for Inter Miami, in terms of ticket costs, in addition to jersey sales. According to the Korea Times, LAFC ticket costs have skyrocketed in the past week.
