South Africa is set to face Czechia in their second match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign. The game will be played at the Atlanta Stadium in Georgia on Thursday, June 18. Both sides have lost their opening game; as a result, their upcoming fixture is a must-win clash for both teams.

Facing co-hosts Mexico in the opener, two South African players received red cards: Yaya Sithole and Themba Zwane. Additionally, Bafana Bafana’s whole game plan failed. The side only had two shots on target with an xG of 0.07. The South African side had no clear chances, and the attackers managed only two touches in the opposition box.

Khuliso Mudau won three tackles; that was the only positive statistic for Hugo Broos’ team against Mexico. Thus, as they step up to face Czechia, they must make several changes to their game plan and starting XI, as a defeat here would certainly mean their elimination from the summer tournament.

Thoughts on the line-up

The game against Czechia will be difficult for Hugo Broos’ men, as they are missing two starters. However, the starting line-up named by the Belgian technician looks promising, as Bafana Bafana are expected to play disciplined defensive football to keep their hopes of advancing in the knockout stage alive.

During a recent press conference, Hugo Broos stated that he’s not bothered by the critics. And the 74-year-old has earned the confidence, courtesy of a few historic results being recorded by the current South African football side.

Nevertheless, Ronwen Williams will have to keep up with the opposition’s attacks, which are likely to come from the flanks and involve crosses. Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Siyabonga Ngezana Okon would also be responsible for containing the opposition’s attack. Bafana’s approach would be to stop leaking goals before they start advancing forward.
