South Korea began their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Czechia.

After overcoming Czechia in their opening FIFA World Cup 2026 fixture, South Korea turn their attention to a tougher challenge against Mexico. The meeting between the two unbeaten sides could have a significant bearing on the race for qualification from Group A.

With both teams winning their first fixtures, the outcome of this encounter could play a major role in determining the group standings. A second consecutive victory would place either side in a strong position ahead of the final round of group-stage matches.

Head coach Hong Myung-bo is expected to maintain a settled lineup after South Korea’s successful start to the tournament. Continuity has been a key feature of the team’s recent performances. Significant changes are not anticipated for the clash against Mexico.

South Korea are likely to keep a 4-3-3 formation, combining defensive structure with creativity in midfield and pace in attack. Several experienced internationals are expected to retain their places in the starting XI.

Goalkeeper Kim Gyeong-min is expected to start between the posts for South Korea. The shot-stopper is likely to be protected by a back four consisting of Lee Han-beom, Kim Min-jae, Lee Gwang-hyeon and Seol Young-woo.

Kim Min-jae is expected to marshal the defence. Meanwhile, Seol Young-woo and Lee Han-beom could provide support from the full-back positions. South Korea will rely on their backline to contain Mexico’s attacking threats and maintain defensive stability.

In midfield, Hwang In-beom, Paik Seung-ho and Lee Tae-seok are expected to form the central trio. Hwang’s ability to dictate play and Paik’s composure in possession are likely to be important components of South Korea’s approach. Meanwhile, Lee Tae-seok could provide additional energy in midfield.

The attacking unit is expected to feature Lee Kang-in, Lee Jae-sung and captain Son Heung-min. Lee Kang-in is likely to operate on the right flank, with Lee Jae-sung offering support from the opposite side. Son is expected to lead the line and remain South Korea’s primary attacking outlet.

They are expected to rely on a combination of experience and tactical discipline as they aim to secure valuable points against Mexico.
