South Korea will face Thailand in FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers
Head coach of the South Korean men’s national football team Hwang Sun-hong has unveiled his 23-man roster for March international break. Among them was midfielder Lee Kang-in of Paris Saint-Germain, who lost public favour due to a recent altercation with team captain Son Heung-min.
The club’s interim coach recognised the public’s worries about Lee and stated that resolving the matter could offer an opportunity to improve team dynamics. “I’ve spoken with both players and settling this kind of dispute may strengthen the bond inside the team.
During a news conference held at the Korea Football Association House in Seoul, the 55-year-old stated that the events that transpired on the pitch have to be settled there.
Later in the month, South Korea will play twice against Thailand in their Group C Asian qualification tests for the 2026 World Cup. They will play Thailand at Seoul World Cup Stadium on March 21 at 8 p.m., and then they will travel to Bangkok on March 26 for a 9:30 p.m. encounter.
The national team must finish in the top two spots out of the four teams in the group to move on to the next phase of qualifiers. They have already defeated China and Singapore in the second round. In the second round, there are nine teams of four.

The national team and supporters are hopeful the team can get past their disappointing experience at the Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup in Qatar last month, which included more than just their 2-0 semifinal loss to Jordan.Following the loss, it was revealed that Lee, 23, and Son, 31, who are regarded as two of the best players in the competition, had argued about Lee’s and a younger teammate’s insistence on playing ping pong the day before the semifinal match. Following some sort of fight, Son suffered a dislocated finger and Lee faced public outrage over what was seen to be an insurrection against the team leader.
